Met Gala 2018: Updates on Fashion’s Biggest Night

The Biggest Moments at This Year’s Met Gala

The Met Gala is known as a prestigious fashion event filled with exclusive A-List attendees handpicked by Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour.

The reason for this event is to raise funds for the Met’s Costume Institute, where it’s attendees’ outfits are showcased. This years theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” which brought about a lot of conversations on the topic as some see it as controversial. Mixing fashion and religious artistic production gave us some intricate and renaissance themed outfits at the Met Gala this year. Many attendees showcased beautifully designed head pieces that could give off an angelic vibe.

The designers this year really took their designs to the next level with these detailed pieces showcasing Swarovski crystals, head pieces, gold hue’s and even wings. Dolce & Gabbana was one of the artists that really took the theme to heart and showcased many crowns and Vatican themed dresses. All in all, I have to say the outfits showcased this year are some of the most beautiful yet.

Blake Lively

The actress’s Versace gown had a massive train that forced her to arrive in a party bus. According to Vogue  the gown “Spliced with sheer panels on both sides and covered in so many beads that it took 600 hours to embroider the bodice alone, there was no chance that Lively’s entrance would go unnoticed,” Although her husband, Ryan Reynolds couldn’t attend as he was promoting his upcoming movie “Deadpool 2” she definitely stole the show all by herself.

Kanye West did not attend

Amid all the controversy surrounding Kanye West and his tweets, he did not attend the gala. Kim Kardashian West showed up in an all gold Versace dress. Kim responded to Kanye on Twitter by saying she wished he was there but he was “only finishing up 5 albums”.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry spread her wings last night at the Met Gala in a gold Versace ensemble.

Virgil Abloh + Kendall Jenner

Virgil Abloh brought out one of the first pieces from Louis Vuitton since becoming their menswear artistic director. Staying within the theme, the all-white suit was decorated with Catholic stained glass pieces. Kendall Jenner was his date and was dressed accordingly, in OFF-WHITE and a pair of Jimmy Choo’s from the OFF-WHITE collaboration. Abloh wore the “UNC” OFF-WHITE x Air Jordan 1s which are said to be dropping soon.
